The issue of Facebook and privacy has been much debated and it’s not hard to find articles, blogs and discussions about it. I’d already had my concerns about the new profile. (Chiefly, I was irritated because I wasn’t able to see what it would look like without making the change. I’d really prefer to change back.) I think I had vaguely noticed being able to see extra text from other people’s wall posts, but didn’t think much of it. Then I found (via my ALA Direct email) this article by Bobbi Newman: Facebook’s Latest Privacy Violation. If you’re one of those people who just accept Facebook as it is and don’t think much about it, I strongly suggest you read this and then follow up with some of her suggested extra reading. Oh, and check your privacy settings.
(In case you hadn’t guessed, privacy is an issue I take pretty seriously. Yes, I’m one of those nuts who even refuses to have a supermarket loyalty card. Call me paranoid, but they didn’t decide they want me to have one just to be nice.)
